Humans are basically designed to be mobile and active. Our bodies evolved to meet the demands of human beings. However, research shows that as the economy develops, the population’s activity level is dangerously reduced. The price of human and economic progress is staggering more and more, as a consequence of which people do not need to be active in completing their tasks. This will undoubtedly be a dangerous threat to health, welfare and also the quality of human life. But what extremely deserves concern is that it also results in massive erosion of human potential.
In many economically affluent countries, physical inactivity is so entrenched that it becomes the norm. Without realizing it, the consequences present a more prominent and far more radical problem than human beings can realize. Perhaps the most significant concern is the fact that the problem, its price and its consequences, are accelerated into the future across generations, creating cycles of ill-fated physical and emotional health, and tragically again erasing steadily the human potential of tomorrow.
This is indicated by the decrease in the amount of time spent completing office tasks, taking care of household trifles, including in terms of moving people from one place to another. Technological advances in almost all fields have spoiled humans excessively. All are evidence of the accidental excesses of technological and economic progress, including the progressive results of innovation. Vehicles, machines, and gadgets today are available in a variety of models only to complete tasks that once required physical effort.
The results of the research show that the world’s changing towards physical inactivity has increased dramatically. In just 44 years (estimated to be 1.5 generations), physical activity in America has decreased by 32 per cent and will follow the same path of up to a 46 per cent decline by 2030. It is conceivable that this trend will become even more dramatic for countries in which people’s physical awareness is low, such as Indonesia. The physical education program in schools did not make it. It brought about by meager government efforts to make the general public aware of the importance of physical activity and sports.
Therefore, we need to take action against these world trends. One of these acts of resistance is to provide a vehicle for our children to be happy and move a lot; the effects of which of course must move across generations as well. The action must be fun, not requiring special abilities or skills, so that it does not limit the scope for participation of those involved.
To fight physical inactivity, the PGSD Penjas (PETE for Elementary Schools) Study Program launched the Active Healthy Kids program for Indonesian children. The PGSD Penjas Study Program is competing against time in encouraging the physical activity promotion campaign program to any parties concerned. Mainly for elementary and special school children to transmit fever to move simultaneously throughout schools in Bandung, in West Java, in various Provinces, and throughout the world, so that we can avoid cultural epidemics sedentarily.
